About Mr. Guess

Bobby Guess is an honor graduate of the University of Houston, and he is currently the Band Director at WoodCreek Junior High School in the Katy ISD and is a free-lance Bass Trombonist in the Gulf Coast Area.  He performs in many venues and styles ranging from orchestral and Sacred to big band and R & B funk.

Bobby has completed his twenty-seventh year as a music educator in the State of Texas.  He has taught in the Cypress-Fairbanks, Houston, and Lamar Consolidated, and Katy Independent School Districts and under his direction, his bands have received numerous local, state, and national awards.  In 2004, Bobby was the recipient of Houston’s KPRC Channel 2 Sunshine Award, an award for educators nominated by their students and community.  Bobby was featured as a presenter at the Texas Music Educators’ Association and the Texas Bandmasters’ Association Conventions in San Antonio, as an expert in trombone pedagogy.  Bobby Guess is also an active brass clinician; engineering clinics for brass performers of all ages and disciplines. In 2008, Bobby joined the SE Shires Instrument Co as an educational performing artist.

Bobby was a bass trombonist for Walt Disney Entertainment Productions in Anaheim, California, and he has played for Broadway touring shows such as West Side Story, Kiss of the Spider Woman, My Fair Lady, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Hello Dolly, Anything Goes, and Singin' in the Rain.  He has also performed with the Houston Symphony Orchestra on contrabass trombone in Schoenberg's Gurrelieder.

Having taught and performed in every socioeconomic level and demographic population, Bobby believes that music is a tool educators and performers use to teach students lifelong skills that transcend the music classroom.  Without music, life is absent.  Even with the numerous awards and accolades presented in his professional career, Bobby still feels the highlight of his life is his family.  Bobby is very happily married to his wife of 11 years, Anne, and has three amazing children: Zachary, Zoe, and Vasileia.
